The GCMS-QP2050 is Shimadzu’s completely redesigned single quadrupole mass spectrometer that can be paired with either the Nexis GC-2030 or Brevis GC-2050 gas chromatograph. The mass spectrometer itself is only 280 mm wide, making it the most compact quadrupole mass spectrometer on the market. The instrument has been designed with particular attention to durability and ease of maintenance. Changing the redesigned ionisation chamber takes only about 1 minute. User maintenance and vacuum management can be easily performed directly from the GC instrument control panel. Other parts of the mass spectrometer (transfer line, quadrupoles, detector) have also been redesigned and offer about 2.5 times higher sensitivity compared to the previous model.

The GCMS-QP2050 is available in two models (Entry Class and Middle Class), differing only in the design of the turbomolecular pump and thus in the sensitivity. The GCMS-QP2050 has a quadrupole sweep rate of 30 000 u/s, which is the highest value of any single quadrupole instrument on the market. The speed of the instrument is based on Shimadzu’s patented ASSP™ (Advanced Scan Speed Protocol) technology, which enables high scan speeds in scan measurements without loss of sensitivity. The speed and ASSP™ technology make the instrument ideal for fast GC and comprehensive GCxGC-MS applications where the measurement speed of conventional quadrupole mass spectrometers is not sufficient.

The instrument is controlled by the new Shimadzu LabSolutions GCMS software, familiar from other Shimadzu chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments. In addition to the traditional file-based version, GxP-compatible database and client server versions of the software are available. The LabSolutions Insight add-on software supplied with the instrument is ideal for processing the results of multicomponent methods.
