Shimadzu Brevis GC-2050
Capillary gas chromatography
The Brevis GC-2050 is a brand new small but powerful gas chromatograph from Shimadzu. The instrument is only 350 mm wide, saving valuable laboratory bench space. The 30-slot sample feeder (AOC-30i), which is placed on top of the instrument, does not increase the width of the instrument at all and sits completely on top of the gas chromatograph. The GC-2050 can be configured as a dual line and both lines can be used simultaneously for measurements. The dual line allows, for example, to combine liquid sample supply and head space sample supply in one instrument in a very compact way.
The instrument has been designed with particular emphasis on ease of use. The injector can be opened manually with a quick-release mechanism and the columns can also be attached without tools using ClickTek accessories. The software includes an automated function for changing the injector inner tube, which cools the injector automatically and guides the user through the different steps. It is also possible to automate column maintenance, e.g. at start-up.
The GC-2050 supports the use of all major carrier gases. The use of hydrogen as a carrier gas can therefore significantly speed up analyses. The use of hydrogen in the instrument is safe thanks to a separate integrated hydrogen sensor. The carrier gas can also be automatically switched to a cheaper alternative (e.g. from helium to nitrogen) by means of a Gas Selector unit when the instrument is not performing measurements. This results in significant savings in operating costs.
The instrument is controlled by Shimadzu’s modern and easy-to-use LabSolutions software, available in a traditional file-based version, a database version (LabSolutions DB) or a client server version (LabSolutions CS) meeting GxP requirements. The instrument can also be controlled by software from other manufacturers using device drivers.
